Bill to Ban Imports of Goods Made with Slave Labor Passes Congress

The US Congress passed a bill which will ban imported goods which were produced through forced or slave labor. The ban could include fish caught in Southeast Asia, clothing made in sweatshops in Kazakhstan, and gold that could have been mined by children in Africa.

It is estimated that more than 30 million people are victims of forced, child or slave labor around the world. The law that Congress passed is actually an amendment to an 80-year-old anti-slavery law. The law will include 350 different types of goods from 47 different countries which could be banned under the new legislation.
