Optometry Terms: V-Z

Visual Acuity - is the clarity of a person’s vision.  This depends on the sharpness of the retinal focus within the eye and the sensitivity of the interpretative faculty of the brain.

Vitreous Detachment – this is when the vitreous humour separates from the retina.

Wall-Eyes – when a person with strabismus looks at an object, one eye focuses on the object and the other eye focuses with a convergence angle greater than zero.

Zonules - is a ring of fibrous strands that connects the ciliary body with the crystalline lens of the eye.
